A totally larger than life experience, hard to imagine this place was built in the late 1800's. Be prepared for some walking and climbing steps, Admission is a bit costly but worth it, most especially at Christmas when it's all decorated, what a task that must be. It was quite busy, and parking lots were mostly full. Some lines at food places but the staff kept it going quickly. Definitely worth the experience!

An amazing feat! Hard to believe it was built in the late 1800's

My family has been again and again and again. This time, we took our SIL and his family. My SIL had never been and loved it, his mom had never been at night at Christmas for the candlelight tour and she loved it. There is just something special about seeing Biltmore estate at night in Dec.31 lavishly decorated the home.  Reservations were made online and i called to make sure that I had bought the right tickets as they did not mention the candlelight tour. The rude lady said I had the right tickets. A few days before the trip I called back just to confirm because something just didn't seem right and I had NOT bought the right tickets. I had only purchase the grounds and estate. I needed to pay additional 128.00 (6 tickets) for the candlelight entry. Not a problem and SO worth it. The kind gentleman I spoke with, upgraded our tickets immediately and we could go on the self guided grounds tour at 430, but our entry time for the evening was for 9:15p.m. We got there around 8:30 and they let us in which surprised us. The employee at the entrance announces that you can go on it. They scanned our ticket and you will use this ticket for the next day also. So for 6 people with the candlelight it was around 728.00. The gift shops are not terribly expensive and they had all their Christmas ornaments on sale. (Kurt Adler ornaments were 9.00ish). You can also take photos inside Biltmore (flash less photography). Back in the day, you could not take photos. Wear comfy shoes, lots of stairs to climb, I froze even with a coat, gloves and hat but most people seemed to be okay with just a coat. There is music in the garden room and one other room at the house at night. The day tour there is no music. you can take your time and look all you want. I suggest in every room start with the ceiling-some are painted, sculptured etc. Then go to the trim, walls (some are silk, tapestries, embossed leather etc.). The furniture is magnificent and detailed with hand carvings. The doors are massive. You can spend all day here, the gardens are dead but in the spring is the best time to see that.

Amazing experience & atmosphere to see Biltmore during Christmas! A bit pricey but snagged a deal during a sale and was worth it! Not terribly crowded on a week day, I imagine the weekend is busier!  Highly recommend checking out the lagoon… the far end on a still day reflects the back of the Biltmore house in the water!! Also a waterfall to see on the drive from the house towards the lagoon that’s worth stopping by! Food was fairly reasonably priced & delicious. Winery was great! Definitely do the complementary wine tasting - the line can be long so ensure time for that. Dinner on site was a bit pricey but good food- some places require reservation but can also do walk ins.

Biltmore is Beautiful

Look, I am sure this is a great thing to do for some people; but I am here to give a real opinion regarding your $155 ticket "value" (Christmas lights tour pricing). 

I cannot say it is worth it at all. The grounds are beautiful, the shuttle driver that took us from lot C was awesome. He had a lot of personality, was friendly, and gave us some general information and answered our questions on the quick drive up. 

The home on the outside is spectacular, it's like looking at a big hotel. It was cold outside, so no points are taken off for weather - it's the weather. It is your responsibility to dress appropriately. The house (1st floor in particular) is very cold during winter months. You need outdoor clothing, jacket etc. It was decorated VERY elegantly and beautifully for the Christmas tour. They do get a 10/10 for that. 

You will get an audio guide that you have to put up to your ears like an old phone, this is continuous and clunky. For $155 they need to upgrade this system. They must find a ton of earrings! It's clunky, and not great. I expect something like this at a low grade haunted house. You paid $155, they reuse these over and over, upgrade. I would consider the headphones from the 80's an upgrade, literally. With the technology we have, this is absolutely unacceptable and I would fire someone. People have headphones, they can make an App, you can put it on your phone and play the numbered exhibit as you walk with your own headphones even. SOMEONE SHOULD BE FIRED FOR THIS. This is beyond unacceptable. Like I said, acceptable for a low grade haunted house. 

With people wearing their coats and switching hands to ears, having a purse etc, over crowding (they sell too many tickets), it doesn't make for an enjoyable experience having to maneuver to hear. 

I did an evening tour, so it's less crowded than the day but still over crowded. I would suspect their entire business plan is about maximizing fire code allowable capacity. This is not about enjoyment of an experience. They are not selling an experience, Disney Land sells an experience. They are selling tickets. 

It's just not THAT great, the areas you get to see considering they're selling JUST HOW GRAND AND HUGE this house is - is a joke. It's not even 10%. I am beyond underwhelmed.  So glad I got to see the entrance way? 

This is a money making scam by the family. They still own the house, they probably hate it minus the $150+ million per year they easily net! Here you go plebs, come look at our grand estate, well, a few rooms, gasp at how grand it is (even though we aren't really showing you), spend your shekels and now bugger off. It's the Disney Land entrance fee for intellectuals without the day at the park. 

I expect to see a considerable amount of the estate, the actual mansion, to not have it so over sold that I can actually enjoy what I am seeing. Instead, YOU ARE cattle. You are packed in! Come and ooodle at this ridiculous "house" which is a complete waste of space by the way. That is what I want. Not the 18 rooms, maybe that you get to see? Now, I know they can't open up the whole thing, but it is so closed off you see easily less than 10%. 

No wonder the Astor family hated them. They didn't understand money, what is truly grand. They're still grifting off the American people, but this is shameless.

Now, I think boomers would love this! Don't get me wrong. But if you want your $155 to actually have some value (I do), then I expect more and they need to deliver more. You can tell they use a skeleton crew in the house and entrance etc. 

Also, I did read reviews about people complaining about rude employees - I can detect what they mean. They're probably wildly underpaid and they can do the math on how much this family is grifting off this home for ticket fees and claim poverty (they love to tell you the money is gone). They just mean poverty from where the family started. So, they (the employees) get a pass. Guest services on the phone was lovely and most employees were nice. I suspect they're micromanaged, and they repeat the same "don't touch" all day long. 

But this family is GRIFTING, they do the bare minimum, call? You're on hold if not for hours at least 30 min. Even Biltmore City receives tax dollars, but it benefits the family - be real.

So, if you want to see something grand and huge - just go to a huge hotel and walk around for free. It's the same thing, but probably better.

Respect the Hustle - I Guess??

Even in winter the Biltmore is worth a visit.  The audio tour is one of the best I've ever heard.  The shuttle bus drivers are also incredibly knowledgeable and provided interesting details.  the holiday decorations throughout the property, including the shops, are elegant and creative.
